The Bank of England held rates at 3.75% on Wednesday, but the vote split leaned hawkish. Megan Greene, Catherine Mann, and Huw Pill backed an immediate hike to 4.00%, while Governor Bailey made clear the pause wasn’t a sign of comfort. Markets still expect at least one 25 basis point increase later in 2026, keeping the backdrop supportive for Sterling.

The Swiss franc offers much less rate appeal. Earlier this week, Bloomberg reported that the SNB is expected to keep rates at zero through the end of 2027 before considering hikes. With Swiss inflation comfortably within target, there’s little pressure to act, leaving the BOE and SNB policy gap tilted in GBP’s favor.

GBP/CHF has traded between roughly 1.0800 and 1.0900 since mid-July. Thursday’s yen-driven safe haven move briefly dragged the pair toward S2 at 1.08203, but buyers defended the range floor. Price has since rebounded to around 1.0853 and moved back above S1 at 1.08555.

If GBP/CHF holds above S1, the next areas to watch are the Pivot Point and R1 at 1.09161, near the top of the July range. A clean push through R1 could open the door to R2 at 1.09415.

If price closes back below S2 at 1.08203, the recovery case weakens. A sustained break below 1.0800 would shift attention toward the rising moving averages and likely require a reassessment of the near-term bias.

Whichever bias you end up trading, don’t forget to practice proper risk management and stay aware of top-tier catalysts that could influence overall market sentiment.
