Price action was rather wonky during the session since EUR got kicked lower while USD was bid higher despite the lack of catalysts. NZD strength was a theme as well, but that made more sense because of the risk-on vibes.

Asian session forex traders didn’t have a lot of news reports to work with, so they mostly focused on extending the previous session’s themes.

The U.S. dollar reasserted its dominance against most of its major counterparts as tax reform came back in the spotlight. However, the currency stalled from its climb when North Korea conducted another missile test.

Choppy session today, but a few themes were clearly playing out, namely GBP weakness because of renewed Brexit-related jitters, AUD strength due to the risk-on vibes, and (strangely enough) CHF resilience.

A pretty quiet day for the major currencies, as a lack of economic reports inspired tight ranges and focused investors’ attention on central bankers’ speeches.

The dollar was off to a topsy-turvy start on Monday then eventually ended mixed against its rivals. There wasn’t much on the data docket, so traders paid closer attention to speeches from central bankers instead.

Not much on the calendar, so traders apparently took directional cues from the risk-on vibes since the higher-yielding AUD & NZD outperformed while the safe-haven CHF took hits. JPY was resilient, though.

Risk aversion was the name of the game during the Asian session, as a lack of reports turned investors’ attention to the Asian bourses’ weak performances.
