Trading is already a challenging endeavor but these days, with the world facing a coronavirus pandemic, trading is more challenging than ever. 😭
We’ve all been constantly bombarded with bad news about the pandemic lately so I thought I’d take the other side and share ten pieces of good news that’s been happening to help fight this global outbreak. 📰
1. Two 103-year-old women recovered from the virus.
What do you call a person who is 100 years old or older?
Someone who can still whoop cooronavirus’ arse.
Older people and those with pre-existing medical conditions are more at risk of developing severe coronavirus symptoms. But not these two centenarians. 👵👵
2. Cases in China have fallen dramatically.
In the city of Wuhan, the epicenter of a coronavirus outbreak, China closed its last temporary hospital as the number of COVID-19 patients continues to drop. 🏥
China had quickly built 16 new hospitals early last month in just weeks to provide thousands of beds for the sick as the virus spread rapidly. They’re now all closed. [source]
3. A vaccine has been fast tracked and human trials have begun.
Moderna, a biotechnology company, has developed an experimental vaccine amd has begun the process to test for its safety and efficacy.
The company has started the Phase I study, evaluating its vaccine candidate, mRNA-1273, against SARS-CoV-2 (the virus) that causes COVID-19 (the disease). [source]
The first person to get the shot was a 43-year-old mother-of-two from Seattle. 🦸♀️
There are a total of 45 (very brave) male and female volunteers between the ages of 18 and 55.
4. Another vaccine is also in the works.
Arcturus Therapeutics, another biotechnology company, is developing a COVID-19 vaccine in collaboration with Duke University and National University of Singapore. 🧬
Their plan is to conduct pre-clinical testing followed by human clinical trials. [source]
5. Israeli scientists are also working on a vaccine.
Over 50 Ph.D. scientists from the Israel Institute for Biological Research are working to produce a vaccine and antibody for the novel coronavirus. 🔬
According to reports, scientists have had a significant breakthrough in understanding the biological mechanism and qualities of the coronavirus. [source]
6. An antibody was discovered to help block infection of the novel coronavirus.
A team of ten scientific researchers from the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam and Utrecht University say that they managed to find an antibody against an infection by the coronavirus.
They are the first researchers in the world to make this claim. 🥇
The discovery could lead to an antiviral medication and could also facilitate self-testing for the general public. [source]
7. Indian doctors created a “cocktail” of different drugs that worked.
Three patients who were treated for COVID-19 at Jaipur’s Sawai Man Singh (SFS) Hospital and Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital in India have been “cured”.
Since there was no clear treatment protocol for COVID-19 before the first case was reported on March 3, a team of doctors decided to try a combination of malaria, HIV and swine flu drugs (Lopinavir, Retonovir, Oseltamivir along with Chlorphenamine). 🍸
After the hospital received the patients’ consent, the “cocktail” of drugs were given and patients have now been declared “virus-free”. [source]
8. Another treatment involving using other people’s blood is being tested.
In the absence of vaccines or antiviral drugs, researchers at Johns Hopkins University say the key to slowing and treating the coronavirus might be hidden in the blood of those who’ve already recovered from the disease.
The method of using “convalescent serum” works by essentially harvesting virus-fighting antibodies from the blood of previously infected patients. [source]
9. A new test has been developed that can provide results in 2 hours.
Having enough tests has been an ongoing issue in the U.S. with the healthcare system scrambling to catch up as more people get sick.
The MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland has developed a COVID-19 test that can now provide results within two hours.
Currently, it takes between 3-5 days. [source]
10. The first three coronavirus patients in Maryland have fully recovered.
The first three people to test positive for COVID-19 in the state of Maryland have recovered, cleared self-quarantine and are able to resume their normal lives.
The three patients, a married couple in their 70s and an unrelated woman in her 50s, contracted the virus while traveling. 🚢The governor of Maryland mentioned that the development serves as a reminder that “the vast majority of people will recover from this infection, and this disease can be properly managed.”
As you can see, infected folks are recovering and there are lots of smart people from all over the world working to stop this pandemic.
At times it may be difficult, but let’s try and keep a positive mindset. ☀️
- Things will get better eventually, and back to normal; it is not the end of the world.
- You’re tough, you’ve overcome challenges before. This is simply a new one. You’ll overcome this as well.
- What’s happening right now is unprecedented, humor helps once in a while.
