Not much on the docket for today’s morning London session, so forex traders turned mainly to risk sentiment for direction. And since risk aversion appeared to be the dominant sentiment, the safe-haven currencies had a little bullish party.

The Greenback took a couple of steps back against its higher-yielding counterparts, as a few Asian session traders took profits ahead of the holidays.

Demand for the Greenback persisted during today’s morning London session. The pound, meanwhile, tossed and turned before the BOE statement and then got dumped when the BOE announced that it was maintaining its monetary policy.

The Greenback extended its post-FOMC rally during the Asian session before it eventually ran into a few sellers before the trading session ended.

Not only did the FOMC raise interest rates as expected, but they also projected three more hikes for next year. No wonder dollar bulls came out to play!

Most pairs have been milling about in tight ranges all day, likely because forex traders were sitting on their hands ahead of the last FOMC statement of the year. Still, there were some movements, albeit rather wonky and choppy ones.
