Second quarter GDP quadrupled the consensus estimate, services activity climbed back above 50, and German business surveys hit their best levels of the year. Inflation stopped falling and rose to 2.9%. The ECB held rates on July 23 and committed to nothing. Underneath, unemployment rose in Germany, France and the bloc, retail spending slipped, and the current account flipped to deficit.
