About The Loonie Adventures of a Forex Noob

The Loonie Adventures of a Forex Noob Author “Huck loves her bucks!” I always say. The problem, of course, is how to make those bucks!! In this blog, I'll be posting my adventures as I traverse the forex world, while trying to catch some pips along the way. To do this, I will make use of classical charting methods as well as develop my own mechanical system. After work, I will update you on what’s happened to me that day and how my trades went. Hopefully, by the end of this tale, I'll be able to achieve my goal of becoming a profitable currency trader.

HLHB Weekly Update - February 15, 2013

Mixed week for the HLHB Trend-Catcher last week! While it was able to score a win on EUR/USD, it finished with a small loss on GBP/USD.

EUR/USD

EUR/USD 1-hour Chart

1. Invalid short signal since RSI was above 50.0.
2. Long at 1.3529. Closed at 1.3562 due to new crossover. +33 pips.
3. Invalid short signal since RSI was above 50.0.
4. Long at 1.3537. Trailing stop hit at 1.3529. -8 pips.
5. Short at 1.3467. Closed at 1.3419 due to new crossover. +48 pips.
6. Invalid long signal since RSI was below 50.0.
7. Invalid short signal since RSI remained below 50.0.

Total pips: +73 pips

GBP/USD

GBP/USD 1-hour Chart

1. Invalid buy signal because RSI was below 50.0.
2. Short at 1.5736. Closed at 1.5778 due to new crossover. -42 pips.
3. Long at 1.5778. Closed at 1.5734 due to new crossover. -44 pips.
4. Short at 1.5734. Closed at 1.5676 due to new crossover. +58 pips.
5. Invalid buy signal since RSI was below 50.0.
6. Invalid sell signal since RSI remained below 50.0.
7. Invalid buy signal since RSI was already above 50.0 prior the crossover.
8. Short at 1.5652. Closed at 1.5671 due to new crossover. -19 pips.
9. Invalid long signal since RSI was already above 50.0 prior the crossover.

Total pips: -47 pips

It would seem that the RSI kept the system from jumping in on the rallies.

For instance, signal 9 on GBP/USD was invalid since the RSI filter was already above 50.0 even before the cross over. According to the rules, the RSI MUST cross the 50.0 level at the same time the crossover occurs for the long signal to be valid.

But then again, it's the RSI's job to filter out fake outs. So I shouldn't be upset. After all, I already locked in some profits on my short EUR/USD trade.

Anyway, that's it for the HLHB Trend-Catcher. I hope y'all have a good weekend. I know I will.

XOXO,

Huck
