Why should I care?
The consumer price index reflects the country's overall inflation. It is used by retailers in predicting future price increases, employers in calculating salaries, and the government in determining cost-of-living increases for social security. Most importantly, it is used by the central bank to determine their interest rate decisions. A high reading is usually considered bullish for the currency.
The OlsenScale (SMQ)
The Olsen Scale quantifies the market activity according to the Scale of Market Quakes (SMQ).
Similar to the Richter scale which measures the release of seismic energy during an earthquake, the SMQ relates excessive pricing along various price and time scales to historical data by assigning a single number to it.
