James Michael “Jim” Flaherty is Canada’s current Minister of Finance. He previously served as Ontario’s Minister of Finance and was the Member of Provincial Parliament for Whitby, Ajax.
He was born in Lachine, Quebec in December 1949. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University. Before delving in politics, he practiced law and was a founding partner of Flaherty Dow Elliot, a law firm specializing in motor vehicle accidents and personal injury litigation.
He became Minister of Finance under Stephen Harper’s new Conservative cabinet in February 6, 2006.
