Why Traders Care
The consumer price index reflects the country's overall inflation. It is used by retailers in predicting future price increases, employers in calculating salaries, and the government in determining cost-of-living increases for social security. Most importantly, it is used by the central bank to determine their interest rate decisions. A high reading is usually considered bullish for the currency.
