Mark Carney was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories in 1965. Carney received his bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University in 1988, his master's degree in economics from Nuffield College, Oxford, in 1993, as well as his doctorate in economics in 1995. He was appointed on February 1, 2008 for a term of seven years, making him the youngest governor of the central banks of the G8 nations.
