Mark Carney

Current Governor of the Bank of England, former Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013.

Mark Carney was born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories in 1965. Carney received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Harvard University in 1988, his master’s degree in economics from Nuffield College, Oxford, in 1993, as well as his doctorate in economics in 1995.

He was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Canada on February 1, 2008 for a term of seven years, making him the youngest governor of the central banks among the G8 and G20 nations.

In November 2012, British Chancellor George Osborne appointed him as the next Governor of the Bank of England, making him the first non-Briton to take this position. He took the place of former Governor Mervyn King and has an official term of eight years, although he has remarked that he intends to step down after five years.
